Plot Overview
The film follows the story of Veera, who has been brought up as a male chauvinist by his uncle Ratnam. Veera is in search of a bride who meets his preconceived conditions, which include being less educated, having long hair, and being silent, obedient, and not pursuing a career. However, Veera ends up marrying Keerthi, who is the complete opposite of his expectations. Keerthi is a wrestler with anger issues, short hair, and a university education. Despite her dreams of becoming a wrestling champion, Keerthi is forced into marriage due to her father’s ill health. Keerthi’s uncle convinces her to pretend to adjust to Veera’s expectations, leading her to wear hair extensions and control her anger. Although she initially accepts Veera’s proposal because he refuses a dowry, she soon faces the challenges of dealing with Veera’s misogyny.
The turning point in the story comes when Veera’s life is in danger due to a political disagreement, and Keerthi reveals her true colors by saving him. This event leads to Veera’s fear and respect for Keerthi, as he realizes her strength. However, misunderstandings arise when Ratnam returns from prison and disrespects Keerthi, resulting in a slap from her. Veera, influenced by Ratnam’s actions, also slaps Keerthi and kicks her out of the house. Determined to make Veera realize his mistake and acknowledge the equality between men and women, Keerthi leaves the house, vowing to return only when Veera undergoes a transformation.
The story takes a dramatic turn when Keerthi’s father intentionally enrolls her in a wrestling competition, while Ratnam and Sattam plan to file for divorce under Veera’s name without his knowledge. Keerthi, unaware of the divorce filing, decides to pursue wrestling. Veera, upon learning about Keerthi’s decision, contemplates ending his life due to lost respect. However, he is provoked to fight against Keerthi in a wrestling match to regain his masculinity. Veera’s uncle arranges a separate match between Veera and Keerthi, with the help of Lokesh, Keerthi’s coach who has ulterior motives. Veera trains hard under the guidance of Kodangi, a traditional wrestler who initially refused to train him. Veera’s dedication and understanding of the pain wrestlers endure contribute to his growth.
The night before the match, Veera plans to meet Ratnam but encounters his aunt instead. She reveals the truth about Keerthi and confesses that Keerthi likes Veera and dreams of becoming a wrestler. Veera realizes his shortcomings as a husband and discovers Keerthi’s accomplishments in the field of wrestling. Driven by remorse and love, Veera visits Keerthi, but his meeting is interrupted by Lokesh, who lies about Keerthi’s intentions. This misunderstanding leaves Veera heartbroken.
On the day of the match, Lokesh attempts to assault Keerthi, and it is during the medical examination that Keerthi discovers she is pregnant. The doctor advises against wrestling, but Lokesh insists on continuing the match for financial gain. Keerthi faints during the match and is rushed to the hospital. Veera, desperate to see her, is denied access by Lokesh. Fueled by anger, Veera challenges Lokesh to a fight, during which Lokesh reveals Keerthi’s pregnancy and his intention to blame Veera for a potential miscarriage. This revelation ignites Veera’s rage, and he defeats Lokesh in the fight.
Veera delivers a speech acknowledging his wrongful upbringing and Keerthi’s strength and achievements. He emphasizes the equality between men and women and encourages women not to sacrifice their ambitions for marriage. Veera visits Keerthi, apologizes to her, and reveals that the divorce was Ratnam’s idea. The couple reconciles, and the film concludes with a time jump of one and a half years, where Veera and their daughter watch Keerthi’s victorious wrestling match.
